100 Wardour Street

I have passed this place many times whilst en route to Yorica and often seen long queues of people waiting to get in. So when we saw an Evening Standard offer of 3 courses for £30 per person, it seemed like a great opportunity to visit.

Booked for 6pm on a Saturday, there were no queues to be seen and we were instantly asked for ID by a security guard when we arrived (thanks to my Chinese genetics, I look like I'm 16). 

We then went to the desk to confirm our reservation and were told to place our coats in the cloakroom before heading downstairs. Once our belongings had been stowed away, we headed towards the stairwell to have the same security guard stop us and tell us to check our reservation with the desk. Once he had yelled across to check with the desk, did he remove the velvet rope to let us go downstairs. 

Once we had descended, we were yet faced with another desk to check our reservation. The whole experience was already starting to disappoint and we hadn't even sat down yet. After a long time of waiting for our names to be found, we were seated at a wobbly table. The waiter did not seem too happy when we notified him. 

Thankfully, the evening did improve with my dietary requirements being catered for and friendlier service from Marvin.

For starters we ordered the duck with apple and squid drizzled with yuzu, which was delicious.

 

For mains we had duck and pork belly. The pork belly was very presented but lacked flavour. I would advise eat the cracking first as it can become quite tough/soft. 

 

The spices on the confit duck were a bit confusing with the accompanying peppers and olives. The duck was very similar to the Chinese style of peking duck as it had an oriental flavour but the other ingredients didn't seem to match it.

For dessert, my only option was sorbet. I don't normally enjoy lemon as it's too sharp but 100 Wardour's version has the perfect balance of sweet and sour. The raspberry was ok but I preferred the refreshing lemon. 

 

The atmosphere was lively and suitable for couples and small groups. The decor creates a sophisticated but fun area to dine and chat. I would say the some dishes are worth trying and they are accommodating to allergies but the whole procedure before being seated is not an experience I'd like to redo.
